There’s a nice signup offer for Amex’s fanciest card for non-multi-millionaires. The American Express Platinum card is offering 75,000 Membership Reward points if you spend $5000 within the first 6 months…so you’ve got some time for a fairly low spend, relatively speaking. BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! There’s room to earn tons more as you’ll get 10 points for every dollar you spend on gas and groceries up to $15,000 within those same 6 months. If you’ve got a big family and a few cars, that may not be all THAT tough. It would mean getting $2500 between the two categories per month to get you to what could be a 210,000 point haul in total. Not bad.

The yearly fee for the card is a whopping $550 but can be largely offset by two $50 statement credits per year at saks, $200 total in yearly credits for using UBER and the up-to $200 in yearly credits for airline incidentals.

You may remember a few episodes ago we talked about an app called “commonpass”…It’s the one that documents  health information that you can THEN use to prove you’re well enough to enter a given country. Well the big three airline alliances, oneworld, skyteam and STAR alliance have been pushing hard to get the worlds governments to install infrastructure and policies that will allow for easy entry WITHOUT quarantine. The United Nations department that handles aviation matters recently put out covid testing guidelines that “ pave the way for a framework of trust to be established between countries,” says Jeffery Goh, CEO of Star Alliance.

The 3 alliances are made up of 58 member airlines. One attached to each of 3 major AIRLINES in the US…Delta is SkyTeam, United is Star Alliance and American is OneWorld.
