Hotel Name: The B Akasaka

Location: Tokyo, Japan

The Room:
By western standards…small & sterile but somehow fun. For cleaning up: A glass-walled bathroom looks out into the small room. A large porthole allows you to look out from the shower so you can keep an eye on the television. For sleeping: The bed is typical by Japanese standards, and by that I mean hard as granite. The linens weren’t awful, but we’re not talking ultra-high thread count. Amenities like toothbrush, comb etc are supplied and the soap, shampoo and conditioner are from hand-pumps. All very basic.  If you’re looking for inexpensive and want to experience a one-up from Tokyos much talked about “capsule” hotels, this could be for you.

Service: The staff here gets high marks. They were very attentive to our needs and were very helpful with directions and suggestions for area restaurants. When one staff member couldn’t help, they’d find another…and another…and another…until we were happy.

Perks: No frills means no thrills when it comes to the room. However, there is an adjacent restaurant that offers a breakfast buffet (which may or may not be included with your stay). The connected spa also offers services and is open late.

Location: While Akasaka isn’t the most central part of Tokyo (what is, really?), the hotel is near the Tokyo Metro and it wasn’t difficult to grab a taxi. There is some shopping nearby and is very close to the TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting Service) headquarters.

Lobby: Small and business chic. Beyond the check-in counter is a small seating area and a complimentary self-serve coffee/tea station.

Overall: A very practical hotel for a short visit. If you plan on spending less time in your room and more time roaming the city then this should suffice. If you plan on using your hotel as a large part of your visit then it’s probably best to scout some of the larger, western brands.

Rating: 2 Hops (out of 5)

The Deal-How I got it: A rare move, we booked with Expedia. Prices were higher with the usual Asian discount sites and the hotel’s website was temporarily down. We normally recommend dealing directly with the hotel when possible so try The B Akasaka site first.

Thanks for posting your review. A great way to be warned if staying at business hotel in Japan for the first time. You know why they are called to live in a rabit house.
