You’re flying through Newark airport and connecting to somewhere overseas but want a quick stopover in New York City? Hotels just on the Jersey side of the Hudson might be exactly what you need for a good nights sleep before or after. We’d made a stop at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City but like this room better.
The Room: It looks and feels like a Westin room. As it should be, the space is modern and welcoming with much better square footage than you’ll typically find in a Manhattan hotel room. Your king bed is soft and comfortable and you’ve got a room for guests in this 300+ square foot room. The size of say, a New York City 1 bedroom apartment.
Somehow the chaise lounge makes all the difference for us. We’ve already slept in a few of Westin’s Heavenly Beds so getting this perfect for reading, napping or fainting side-bed is a nice bonus.
Washroom: There’s not enough room Jazzercize, but the washroom is nicely appointed and has just reasonable counter space around the sink. There’s also a basic shower and tub for cleaning up before your quick hop to NYC on the PATH train. The hotels website calls this room the “Spa-like Heavenly Bath”…oookay.
Amenities: The “White Tea by Westin” amenities are the only things we can think of that arent’t labeled “Heavenly” (although part of the “Heavenly Bath” experience). While we like the scent of the bar soap, it’s awkward leaf shape makes for interesting scrubbing. You get just the basics here in a traditional room; soap, shampoo conditioner, the end.
Service: The front desk service was NYC-efficient. Staff got us checked in in a hurry but somehow without making us feel rushed…and with smiles! We love when efficiency and friendly strike a balance.
Wi-fi/Connectivity: On our visit the $9.95 per day internet access worked fine. Speed wasn’t the greatest but no slower than your office connection on a day a new cat video’s gone viral.
Overall: We like this Westin. The quick check-in got us upstairs to our albiet viewless room (facing away from NYC) where we were pleased to find a clean, welcoming space with modern furnishings. It’s convenience to Manhattan via the PATH train make this a great spot for business or quick stopovers.
