Eero Saarinen’s final masterpiece is a retro-travel geek’s dream house. The TWA Flight Center at New York’s JFK airport has been out of service since the airline merged (or got eaten by) American Airlines in 2001 with the exception of the handful of special events since. This weekend you’ve got one more tiny window to step inside and look out some very impressive ones.
The wheels are in motion to make this into the 505-room “Flight Center Hotel” (source: curbed, ny) so if you’ve ever wanted to get a glimpse of what remains of the airline terminal version of this pretty awesome throwback, this is very likely your last chance.
Open House New York puts these viewings together and usually has someone on hand with knowledge of the iconic structure to answer questions. The event runs 11am to 4pm Sunday, October 18, 2015. For detailed information and directions, visit the event’s page at http://ohny.org.
