YouTube | Venice Italy Vacation Rental – Cozy San Basilio

Jake Redman May 16, 2014

It’s arguable that vacation rentals are an upgrade from hotel living, but if you find the right one there’s not much that will get you closer to feeling like a local. That was our goal when booking a long weekend home in Venice Italy. A bit of research told us that this part of the Dorsoduro neighborhood near Ca’ Foscari University was less overrun by (but not without) tourism so this Homeaway rental listed as “Cozy San Basilio” seemed like the perfect spot.

Is Premium Economy Worth It? The Splurge Math Guide

Jake Redman March 21, 2026

By Jake Redman, Modhop CEO — with 50+ long-haul routes flown annually. Quick Answer: Premium economy is worth it when the upgrade costs less than $50 per hour of flight time. On a 10-hour flight, that means any upgrade under $500 is worth serious consideration. Use the Price-Per-Hour (PPH) formula — Upgrade Cost ÷ Flight Hours — to decide in seconds. We have all been there. You’re sitting at your gate, nursing a lukewarm coffee, and you look over at the priority boarding lane. Those people aren’t necessarily rich, but they look significantly less stressed than you do. You start […]

Upgrading to Premium Economy in 2026: Why It’s the Smartest Move on the Plane

Jake Redman March 16, 2026

It is March of 2026, and if you have stepped onto a long-haul aircraft lately, you know the vibe. If you’re even thinking about upgrading to premium economy, it’s probably because the back of the plane: our beloved “steerage”: has become an exercise in high-density engineering. We are talking about seats that seem to have been designed by people who haven’t actually sat in one since 1994. While the tech at the airport has improved, with biometric gates and AI assistants predicting your gate-to-lounge transit time down to the second, the physical space in standard economy remains a battleground for […]

The Luna Landing: Norwegian’s Newest Ship is Basically a Floating Theme Park

Jake Redman March 14, 2026

If you’ve been following the cruise world lately, you know that the “bigger is better” arms race isn’t slowing down. But before we get into the Norwegian Luna, I should probably admit something I’ve said out loud on the modhop podcast. Despite being a travel pro, I’ve never actually been on a cruise. Yep. I’m that guy—plenty of planes, plenty of hotel keys, somehow zero sailings. That said, if I ever finally cave and book a ship, it’s not going to be on some tired, carpet-from-2009 situation. It’d have to be a shiny new ship with all the bells and […]

The Lufthansa Redemption: A 100-Year-Old Icon Gets a Major Business Class Glow-Up.

Jake Redman March 13, 2026

Lufthansa turns 100 this year, and the funniest possible way to celebrate is apparently: “Okay fine, we’ll finally modernize business class.” For a long time, flying Lufthansa was the aviation equivalent of a perfectly ironed shirt — reliable, respectable, and not exactly what you’d call exciting. You knew exactly what you were going to get: precision, a decent pretzel, and a cabin that looked like it hadn’t been updated since the mid-2000s. If you’ve ever flown the older Lufthansa A330-300 business class seats, you know the struggle of the 2-2-2 “footsie” game, where you and your neighbor’s feet are practically […]
