Polaris- The new United Business Class: Part 1:The Seats Part 2:The Lounge Part 3: Menus, Service + Amenities
We’ve seen the new seats and peeked at the new lounges, but what about the “Polaris” by United business class menu, service and amenities? In our final of three installments we explore what extras come with the seat and what’s to eat on-board.
Fifth Avenue Meets 5A.
The hub-city partnerships continue…sort of. Saks Fifth Avenue doesn’t have a location in Newark but it certainly does in New York. The fanciful department store teamed with United on new bedding for Polaris Business Class service that includes new duvets, day blankets, pillows and mattress pads.
Jammies for the Ultra-long Haul
If you’re flying over 12 hours in Polaris Business Class, you’ll get more sleep-friendly goods. On request, you’ll get a pair of Polaris Pajamas and a gel-cooled pillow. We’ve never used a gel-cooled anything but combined with the cowshed lavender pillow mist (in your amenity kit), napping sounds like a springtime walk in a country meadow. Sweet dreams.
A”meh”nity Kit.
Cowshed brand products appear to be the highlight of the provided United Business Class amenities in Polaris. United seems to take pride in the “ergonomically designed” eyemask but after a quick glance we’re still not sure what that means exactly. The photo below shows the mask in all it’s ergonomic glory. Products inside the new amenity kits appear pretty standard business class fare.

NOM-worthy!
Most airlines partner with celebrity chefs that are still living. Not United. Instead, they’ve decided to keep alive the spirit of Culinary Hall of Famer Charlie Trotter. “The Trotter Project” mentors promising new chefs and in return for the airline’s support, the organization will facilitate connections with world renowned chefs to influence in-flight menus. The Polaris by United Business Class Menu will updated seasonally and regionally. (Autumn Chicago deep dish for flights from ORD and Winter sourdough bread-bowls from SFO perhaps?).
Service Adjustment.
There are a few nice service touches in Polaris Business Class. Customized Bloody Marys and Mimosas “served seat side” and a personalized concierge service are just a couple. For the most part, these and a few other adjustments bring the United Business Class offering to a competitive level with other domestic and many international carriers.
The new Polaris United Business Class menu, amenities and service debut December 1, 2016. Polaris seats and lounges will begin rolling out at the same time but introduced across planes and airports (respectively) into 2017 and beyond.
