Whether you live in Australia and are looking to discover some of the gems in your home turf, or planning a trip to Australia for when overseas travel is possible again, there are plenty of beautiful places to explore.
There are a few places that are located by the sea, for those who enjoy a beachside stay, and some based in the stunning, national parks with breathtaking views, challenging hikes, and even secret swimming holes.
Whatever tickles your fancy, here are 7 of the top places to visit in Australia.
Boasting one of the world’s best city’s, Melbourne is buzzing with culture, prestige, and coffee. They are known to brew the best coffees and have secret rooftop bars and underground theatres. If you like city life, then Melbourne is the place for you. And not too far away is the beach, where you can enjoy the sun and swim with the dolphins
A quiet corner located in New South Wales, the Sapphire Coast is known as a hidden gem and is the opposite of Melbourne, far away from tourists. A long car journey (or a short plane ride if you can find a seat!), the dramatic views, rust-red rocks, and breathtaking stretch of water, is worthwhile.
Appearing similar to the Maldives, Whitsundays is Australias’ luxury paradise. Located on the northeast coast of Queensland, the collection of 74 islands are secluded and located right next to the Great Barrier Reef. Whitsundays is worth a visit.
If you prefer to scuba dive, rather than bathe, then far north Queensland is the place for you. Tropical weather, spectacular waterfalls, exotic wildlife, and clear blue lakes, it can’t get any better. Witness the beauty of the world’s largest coral reef, explore from a glass-bottomed boat, or take a wander around the UNESCO World Heritage icons, this location should be on everyone’s bucket list.
Swim with whale sharks, walk the beautiful Mandu Mandu Gorge trail or explore the world’s longest fringing reefs all in Exmouth. Exmouth is the perfect location for a mix of relaxation on the golden sand and having fun while indulging in watersports.
Kakadu National Park is a certified UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most amazing, and largest national parks in Australia, covering more than 20,00 square kilometers. This trip requires more time, as there is so much to explore, and may even be best with a car, to ensure you make your way around all it has to offer. Swim the infinity rock pool Gunlom, witness the beautiful 200 meter Jim Jim Falls waterfall or pick one of the 30+ walking trails.
Tasmania is located south of the mainland, is an island state of Australia and is home to some of the most beautiful national parks. 40% of the island is preserved as world heritage wilderness, which means you get to witness its natural beauty and walk in the bush, indulge by the beach, or discover its mountain trails. Before heading there, research what to do in cradle mountain, as you may just find not only can you enjoy watersports, but you may also be able to experience the Aurora Australias.
