Our visit to LA this time was another short one so we thought it might be neat to grab a nicer car than our normal level 1 economy clunker. Silvercar is an attempt at a simpler approach to renting luxury cars. There’s only one make and model to choose from, a loaded Audi A4 that you can book online or using the app.
We decided to give Silvercar LAX a try after reading about Boarding Area partner blog Hack My Trip‘s experience at the SFO location, so we downloaded the app and got to booking.
The process was fairly simple. A few taps, swipes and the usual thumbing-in of personal information. Once you’re in, the process is made super easy by uniform pricing thanks to all the cars being exactly the same. Just imagine the lesson-teaching stories you’ll tell your grandkids…”We had to rent a loaded A4 and LIKED it.”.
The car is loaded with everything from SiriusXM Radio, power everything, leather seats, navigation and even one of those little lighter to USB adaptors you always forget to bring with you.
Getting the car is a little more involved than returning it. At LAX you still have to hop an airport shuttle one stop to the cell phone lot where a Silvercar rep should be waiting. He or she will run down the features, help you use their app to scan the barcode in the window and you’re on your way. When you return, you drive to the actual Silvercar building nearby and they’ll promptly use the same car to chauffeur you to your terminal. Easy, sexy, done.
While we don’t know much about the under-the-hood types of stuff, we did decide this is a nice upgrade from the norm but might not be much easier than renting a premium car at your normal outlet. What might set Silvercar apart is the consistent pricing.

I feel dumber having watched that video. Pretty sure there wasn’t a single piece of useful information.
