My recent United Airlines #platinumchallenge (covered before, during and after) took me to Hong Kong for a quick visit. While there, I thought I’d schedule a visit to the the upgraded Plaza Premium First Lounge inside HKG’s Terminal 1…but this wasn’t my first time here. Turns out, this had been a more traditional Plaza Premium Lounge (one still exists in Terminal 1) until early 2018 or so. Now, refurbished with new seating and higher-end amenities this space is targeted to those who are travelling in premium classes or want a more exclusive and robust airport experience. Have a look:

The Seats

Seats of many types are found inside the Hong Kong Plaza Premium First lounge. Notably the big loungers in it’s largest seating area are greatly improved over what was formerly in this space.Hong KongAbove: 360° view of main seating area.

The Eats

The food on offer here goes well beyond light snacks. Table service brings full meal options directly to you. This is great if you’re about to jump a long red-eye and would rather sleep through the first meal service. My breakfast option was fantastic and the Jamón ibérico plate was an added bonus. Pair your meal with something from the extensive bar or a selection from the “Whiskey Bible”.

The Rest

From massage service (I tried and it’s fantastic) to deluxe showers, the Plaza Premium First Lounge at Hong Kong HKG packs a punch for premium travelers. While not accessible using Priority Pass, You can still enter by paying your way in. It’s more expensive than a typical buy-in lounge but it’s got a lot more to offer. I see this as a solid lounge for solo flyers to check out of the terminal and into an hour or few of pre-flight meditation.
