The Room: It’s not often that the room looks almost exactly like the picture on the hotel’s website. After slogging through the smoky casino filled with hawaiian-shirt wearing elderly people and a few backwards trucker-hat wearing slot enthusiasts, I was pleased to walk into a clean, bright and modern space. With 2 comfortable queen sized beds and great places to work and relax this would turn out to be a quick but happy stay.
There’s great space to eat and work with a pull-out table that works as an add-on to your already spacious desk area. Paired with an ergonomic and attractive Herman Miller style chair it’s an easy spot to work. When work is done you’ll likely want to spend your rent on slots or sit out by the pool but if you’re a hotel room hermit like, me you’ll enjoy the large 42″ HDTV or just gaze out the large window into the desert. One thing this room IS missing though, is a lounge chair or two. You’ll have to enjoy the view from your desk chair.
The washroom is large and comes with a rainfall shower. Ours had decent water pressure, but always prefer when an additional more typical shower head (usually hand-held) is provided in addition. A nice-sized vanity gives you room to prep for your casino night out and a deep tub promises to help you forget what you’ve lost. Amenities by Gilchrest & Soames are trial-sized luxurious but standard for this type of room.
Service: Talking Stick Resort shined here. From the valet to the front desk to room service, it was smiles and helpfulness during this stay. If your experience matches ours, you’ll be warmly welcomed the moment you arrive. I had no complaints about service on this trip.
Wi-fi/Connectivity: Wi-fi is complimentary for all hotel guests and is reasonably fast. Streaming video services (Skype, YouTube) worked without any issues. The “Power and Connection Cube” (my own name for it) near the TV gives you standard and USB options for power and A/V connection to the TV.
Overall: I hate smoke-filled casinos (or any casino for that matter) so one of the very few negatives of this room is getting to it. Once you’re there it’s a great spot to spend an Arizona weekend or relax before a business meeting. The large work space makes it easy to get things done, the oversize washroom is well designed for luxury and the beds are above average for sleep. I don’t play golf but if I did, I’d happily make Talking Stick Resort my home base for a polo-shirt & white shorts weekend with the guys.
