It’s planning season again, when everyone starts planning their summer vacations. While the trip itself is the fun part, the process of scheduling and arranging everything might be a source of additional stress that you don’t need in your life right now. Demotivation can follow, and you may find yourself scrambling to put together a getaway at the eleventh hour. One of the drawbacks of last-minute bookings is that you may be disappointed if you don’t end up with the fun trip you expected. To make sure that you enjoy the trip of your dreams, here are some simple strategies to keep yourself motivated while preparing it.

Research, Research, Research.

When planning a Summer vacation, one of the most common blunders is not thoroughly researching a destination. People often book based on the attractiveness of the brochures or website and then wait to see what the location has to offer, which might result in disappointment. Before making any reservations, find out what the destination you’ve picked has to offer in terms of activities and whether or not it suits the type of vacation you’re hoping for.

A good place to start is when booking your hotel. Although we typically recommend booking directly with the hotel or resort, we still like to use the features at sites like Oyster or TripAdvisor. Sites like these have unpolished views of rooms and on-site amenities to give you a clearer picture of your potential vacation home-base.

Another smart suggestion is to research the cost of living in your destination country so that you can determine how much cash you’ll need to save and bring with you. While the cost of living in hotter nations in the EU is often less expensive than in countries such as the United Kingdom or the United States, you may be shocked by the cost of living in other countries. Check it out right away to save yourself the trouble of deliberating!

Make the most of your time

There’s a forever debate about when is best to button up things like transportation to the airport, flights, and even activities while you’re on vacation but the general consensus is typically “earlier is better”. This is an area where you may want to apply your best time management to ensure that you keep on track and schedule everything as soon as possible. Whether you’re looking at okinawa dive sites or places to take the kids for entertainment, it will help you in the long run! Keep in mind that the sooner you book your accommodations, the sooner you can start looking forward to your vacation!

Speaking of time, one of Jake’s favorite tools when travelling over multiple time zones is this Time Zone Calculator from It can take a bit to figure out but he says it’s been insanely helpful on round-the-world and long-haul trips with multiple stops.

Staying fit

Jake admits he’s not the best example of this, but the last thing you want to be stressed when you travel. To ensure that you look and feel your best when you hit the beach this summer, it’s good practice to work in at least some light exercise in preparing and setting off on vacation. Staying healthy comes in handy when it comes to participating in some high-intensity activities on your trip! If you’re having trouble losing weight in time for your summer vacation, check out these helpful hints.

Let the Countdown Begin!

Finally, one of the most enjoyable aspects of arranging a vacation is the countdown. You could download apps that will keep track of the time remaining and will also provide you with something to think about when you’re having a particularly stressful day at work.
