#1. Choose The Perfect Destination

Maldives, Hawaii, Melbourne, Bali, you name it. With so many stunning beach destinations to choose from around the world, deciding on a destination for your dream ocean getaway can be daunting. To help you decide, start by narrowing down your choices by considering factors such as budget, duration of stay, and activities available.

Using the “vacation” option on your preferred sites can help you narrow down options to help you find exactly the type of package you’re looking for. Try sites like Kyak and Expedia for your initial search and then take time to search others for the best prices. Note that it may help to book directly with your chosen resort and airline if the price is comparable to the best deal found. Doing so can help if changes are needed as your vacation approaches.

#2. Pick Suitable Accommodation

The accommodation you choose will ultimately make or break your ocean getaway. This is the place where you’ll make waffles and get dressed in sandals and a hat, so it’s important to pick wisely. Depending on the size of your party and budget, you can decide between resorts, hotels, villas, vacation rentals, or apartments.

Jake notes that while it may be great to have a whole home on the beach, booking vacation rentals often offers less flexibility with your booking. Check the flexibility of your reservation with either vacation rentals or resorts before you book to make sure you have the flexibility you’ll need.

#3. Purchase Beach Essentials

You cannot show up to the beach without essential items like beach towels, sunscreen, umbrellas, and a cooler. It would be like showing up on a hiking trail without a water bottle. If you do not have the necessary essentials, you’ll need to purchase them. Resort gift shops can be pricey so it can be worth it to pack sand pails and sunblock ahead of time.

#4. Figure Out Transportation

While walking or bicycling along the beach is excellent for short trips, you will need a form of transportation if your getaway involves traveling to different destinations. Consider renting a car, using public transportation, or hiring a taxi, depending on your budget and needs. Also, check to see if your resort has shuttles to area attractions to save money on getting around.

#5. Plan Fun Activities

Swim in the ocean? Or tan in the sun? These two activities usually go with ocean getaways. But what else can you plan for your beach vacation? Depending on your destination, you can choose from a variety of activities such as snorkeling, surfing, kayaking, or just simply relaxing on the beach.

Jake’s tip: If you’re sitting on a pile of Chase Ultimate Rewards, activities can be often be booked using their travel portal. Alternately, sites like Viator are well-known and reliable options for booking things to do.

#6. Pack Your Beach Bag

You have chosen your destination, picked the perfect accommodation, purchased beach essentials, figured out transportation, and planned activities. Now it’s time to pack your beach bag with items that are essential for a day at the beach. This includes things such as swim, coverups, hats, sunglasses, snacks, water bottles, and most importantly – sunscreen!

Enjoy being beach-bound! With the right planning, your dream ocean getaway will be truly unforgettable. So go ahead and plan your dream vacation today – with a bit of preparation, it’ll be sure to be an adventure of a lifetime.
