Jake Redman November 9, 2017

Update Dec. 2018: Scroll down to see posts from this trip. As new challenges and events happen older stuff moves further down the page. The upgrades I’m getting on this trip are tiny ones that have required obsessive levels of seat monitoring in the weeks before. Now, I’m off to Singapore for 6 or so hours via Tokyo. See my #coachlife experience aboard Delta’s brand new A350, an airside hotel in Singapore and more on my way to Platinum with Delta. Bookmark this page for all my related socials in one place.

Podcasts

Singapore has a new Seat, Delta’s got a new Plane, Modhop has a Podcast.

Jake Redman November 3, 2017

We did it! After months of talking about it we got around to pressing “record” on the Modhop Podcast. This and the next handful of them are our dress rehearsal podcasts as we settle in and try to learn how not to be boring, so we appreciate your patience. Enjoy! Also, production note: Anthony Ryan sounds like he’s in an empty stadium during our inteview with Howard Stern creative guru Ron Tarrant. It’s a first-podcast production error. Here a few links to things mentioned in the podcast” Conde Nast “Best Cities in the World” Points Guy “Delta A350 Review” One […]

Until Rockets, we Still Have Years of Fantastic Tech for Long Flights.

Jake Redman October 5, 2017

Until we’re able to hop on a SpaceX rocket for our 30 minute hop to Singapore from New York Harbor, there will be long flights. The exhibitors at this year’s APEX Expo in Long Beach, CA hope things stay the same for a while because they’re putting a lot into your experience aboard airplanes. My second visit to this, the airlines signature passenger experience event found a few new developments in seating, arguably exciting new on-board food options and plenty of in-flight entertainment options that want to talk to your phone. Check out these galleries and 360 pics to see […]

Hotels: Los Angeles

The Colorful Rooms at Hyatt LAX Have a Little Magic in Them.

Jake Redman September 11, 2017

Here’s why Here My LAX go-to hotel for convenience at LAX has always been the Sheraton Four-Points LAX since it’s directly across the street from Budget Car Rental. The routine is typically: return the car late evening, sleep, free hotel/airport shuttle and get the first flight out. A recent leap from the norm has me changing that routine. I still return the car the night before but grab a cheap (or free using my Amex Platinum benefit) Uber ride to the Hyatt Regency LAX. Why? Four Points is okay, but wear and tear on their most recent update of their […]

Airline Seats

Our Favorite Thing in Virgin America First Class is the Pancakes.

Jake Redman August 14, 2017

Virgin America A320 Seat 1D – Transcon First Class.   Airline: Virgin America Aircraft: A320 Seat maps: Seat Guru Our Seat(s): 1D (Bulkhead) Class: First No Lie-flat Seat? No Problem. The race to get international-style business class seats onto transcon flights has been fun to watch in recent years. The seats on Virgin America’s A320s in First Class were ahead of their time in 2007 but within a few years, lagged sorely behind it’s cross-country rivals between New York & LA/San Francisco. On a daytime flight when I’m up for the day though? These white, leathery loungers are just fine. I scored 1D, a […]

My Amazing but boring Room at Sheraton Frankfurt Airport

Jake Redman July 21, 2017

Location, Location. With 2 little kids at home now, solo trips are faster than ever. Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel did it’s part in making sure I didn’t miss my return trip home to my little Modhoppers…just by being AT the airport. The spacious standard room on a Starwood Preferred Guest floor came with typical perks and super-friendly service. For whatever reason the only 360° pic that survived the trip home is of the washroom. Hi there! Break out the Yoga Mat…and maybe a Twister Mat Rooms at the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel have room to move around. There’s good space […]
