Gallery | New York Times Travel Show 2014

Jake Redman April 9, 2014

It took a little over a month to decide which pictures were worthy of a modhop gallery (the bar is pretty low). In our search we found a few pics from our visit to last month’s (March 2014) New York Times Travel Show that we can make useful by adding helpful links to video reviews, resources that can assist in picking the right airline and a few random snaps just to prove we were there.

Video | Delta Economy Comfort A330-300 Row 13

Jake Redman April 7, 2014

Seat(s): Never fans of the name “slimline” we were a little anxious about sitting in what were newly-installed Economy Comfort seats aboard this Delta A330-300. It turns out we didn’t find them to be uncomfortable at all, although it could be imagined that someone “of size” might feel the mechanics of the seat a little more with the thinner (but more “advanced”) cushioning… {{orbitz2}}

Airport Zen

Airport Zen | Seoul Incheon Airport (ICN)

Jake Redman April 3, 2014

It might be my favorite airport in Asia, but I don’t exactly know why. Our earlier visits have been quick connections but each time I wanted to stay longer and look around despite only passing a glut of duty free shops, departure boards and frantic travelers. My suspicion is that it’s allure is in the airport’s relative cleanliness, the airiness of its spaces and that I’ve been lucky enough to be here at less chaotic times. So, hit the Keurig and cozy up to 2 full minutes of Airport Zen at Seoul Incheon Airport (ICN) with us…

Seating: Once your eyes have adjusted to the Vegas worthy neon lighting, you’ll see there’s a good variety of seating here.  Space age swivel chairs and loungers of all sizes are split up into different sections, offering spaces mainly designed for pairs and solo travelers but a few spaces better geared for small groups. It’s not “one size fits all” though. A few seats, particularly solo seats that face out the narrow window that looks out into the terminal, are best suited for the smaller framed visitor.

Hotels: Istanbul

Video | Grand Hyatt Istanbul – Grand Club

Jake Redman March 28, 2014

The Room:  Calling it a “club room” might lead you to believe it’ll be fully stocked with playing cards, roulette table and gin bar but normally there’s nothing very special about it. Rooms on this fancily-named floor at Grand Hyatt Istanbul are typically the hotel’s standard room with little else. But  Standard rooms at Grand Hyatt Istanbul are pretty nice and who knows, maybe housekeeping will leave an extra bar of soap or a sewing kit… The rooms sport separate sitting areas, a big comfortable king bed in a Grand Club King or two twin beds in a Grand Club […]

Video | JetBlue Even More Space – A320 Row 1

Jake Redman March 24, 2014

Seat(s): Bulkhead seats in any economy class that advertise “more legroom” typically don’t have it. The modhop standard for “extra legroom” is a seat that let us  extend our legs farther than in a normal economy seat and that’s not the case in this JetBlue Even More Space row aboard an Airbus A320.  If you’re tall, one of the non-bulkhead seats in this section of extra-legroom seats might be a better choice.

Video | Asiana Business Class 777-200 Seat 3E

Jake Redman March 17, 2014

Seat(s): There’s no way I can make this review completely fair. No, no one paid for my flight and no I didn’t win a contest. I simply got 2 open seats in Asiana Business Class all to myself. It’s a perk in any seat or class but I felt really like I won at life on this one. You see, everyone went for the admittedly awesome window seats because of their alone-ness.  If you’re travelling alone or with someone you don’t particularly like, book one of those. {{orbitz2}}

ZUR- Zurich

Video | DNATA SkyView Lounge – Zurich (ZRH)

Jake Redman March 10, 2014

Lounge: DNATA SkyView Lounge Where: Zurich (ZRH) – Zurich   Seating: There’s a clear effort to fill this DNATA SkyView Lounge with the maxiumum number of seats without feeling too cramped. Because it’s not broken up into sections the lounge feels pretty open when it’s empty but by looking at how the larger center section of seats are arranged in rows, you’ll likely feel pretty jammed if it’s busy. Seats themselves are comfortable but there’s not much to choose from. If you’re a kitchen table type, you’ll miss cafe or bar seating, it’s all lounge chairs here. Food/Drink: This was the most disappointing […]
