You’re holding on to Global Entry, pre-check, maybe Clear? Well you may be adding something called “commonpass” to your collection of air-travel memberships. Lonely Planet says it’s a digital health pass that will display your recent covid-related health history in a way that officials can understand while travelling say overseas. Essentially, with permission, it will access and display lab tests or lord willing vaccinations without revealing your other health issues. Right now it’s a trial being tested on certain United and Cathay Pacific flights with an eye on early 2021 for an official rollout.

Yeah there’s a pandemic and yeah it’s rearing it’s ugly head in parts of Brooklyn and queens again but that’s not stopping American Express from opening up it’s new Centurion Lounge at New York’s JFK airport. The lounge is now open for business as Amex marches on , ALREADY opening lounges so far this year in Phoenix, Charlotte and LA. The JFK lounge offers up perks like…(I’m reading verbatim from the release)

  • A curated menu by renowned Chef Ignacio Mattos, channeling the elegance and ethnic diversity of the city’s vibrant restaurant scene
  • A first-ever speakeasy-style bar in a Centurion Lounge by mixologist Jim Meehan, called “1850”
  • Wellness offerings from Equinox Body Lab, including self-led meditation and stretching sessions using Equinox’s health-and-fitness app Variis
  • Elevated New York inspired design — guests are greeted by a handmade, custom mosaic mural, a nod to the NYC subway tiles
  • Coffee by Irving Farm and local wines curated by Anthony Giglio

A full lounge experience is limited due to Covid 19, obviously but it’s nice to see a little bit of normal if you can find your way in.

It looks beautiful, wish I could go. Look for the video tour on our podcast page along with a link to all the details.

There’s a small nugget of MAYBE good news… amidst all the layoffs and furloughs in the airline industry. Southwest airlines says it has NO plans …at the moment…to layoff or furlough any of it’s workers. The rub is that there will likely have to be some negotiations for concessions from workers to avoid layoffs. Southwest CEO Gary Kelly in addition announced management pay cuts earlier this week according to USA Today. He says it’s dependent upon speedy negotiations with unions hoping to have a plan by January 1. We’ll see how THAT shakes out.
