We got an early look at Hawaiian Airlines new lie-flat seats a few days ago but now the airline has the rest of the details. New configurations will add the new front cabin experience and expand “Extra Comfort” economy seating. Here’s a more complete roundup of what you’ll get inside the newly configured A330 in both classes.
First, a video from Hawaiian Airlines put out when the new Premium Cabin was announced that gives a perhaps TOO in-depth look into the inspiration for the seats but in a few places, we get a good look at what’s offered.
The specs are decent. You’ll get a seat that’s got 20.5″ of width and 76″ long and lies fully flat. What’s interesting here is that some footwells don’t look to be attached to the seat in front of you in any way. In fact, it appears to leave some space behind it which may be great for letting a neighbor pass without having to get up or contort yourself. Seats are adjustable using a “reclining wheel”, an interesting way to get to lie-flat mode but might be kind of genius (if for no other reason) as it gets rid of more heavy built-in mechanics.
Seats in Premium Class come with a power port for your own device but Hawaiian will supply the large-format tablet used to watch provided in-flight entertainment. Yep, no bulky setback personal TV’s up here to weigh things down. The tablet fits into a specially designed arm that allows you to adjust the screen for perfect viewing.
If you’re tall, the legroom in Hawaiian Airlines Extra Comfort seats might actually deliver. But while you’ll get improved seat pitch over what’s offered in economy, there’s not much else “extra” where comfort is concerned.
Food in Hawaiian Airlines Extra Comfort is an upgrade from the typical economy class meal but only on international flight main courses. Complimentary seatback entertainment units and power ports for each seat also add to make this cabin arguably #upgradeworthy.
It may be the closest you’ll ever get to a Hawaiian Airlines First Class cabin but at first glance the Premium cabin looks okay to us as an international business class product. Meanwhile “Extra Comfort” offers up a few perks but doesn’t show us much above what’s offered in economy other than legroom to make the upgrade extraordinary.
We look forward to trying each product ourselves. Thanks for checking out the New Hawaiian Airlines Premium Cabin and Extra Comfort seating with us!

The lie-flat seats are nice, but let’s be honest, the product at a 2x2x2 layout is far from industry-leading. It would have been near-industry-leading maybe 10 years ago, but not now.

Agreed. Not much here that’s groundbreaking but nice to see Hawaiian trying to catch up. 😉
