After two years of uncertainty, the world is once again beginning to open up, meaning that it is finally possible to travel. With many travel restrictions lifted, you may be desperate to start planning your next trip and keen to make up for the lost time. If you are an adventurous traveler, you may be looking for exciting opportunities to do something different on your next getaway. Making your next trip truly memorable is a great way to ensure you will have a fantastic time. If you like the sound of taking a trip with a difference, why not consider one of these ideas to help you get inspired:

Find the ideal hotel online.

Searching out the best deals on hotels online isn’t always as easy as it sounds, so we’ve got a few ideas to make it easier. First, the obvious: search around on different travel websites. This will allow you to compare prices and see what each site offers. Seek out the reviews that previous guests have left that address what you value most in a hotel stay (Was the staff friendly? Are the sheets clean?). This will give you an idea of what to expect from finding the best Hotel Deals online. Another thing that you can do is sign up for newsletters from different travel websites. (We recommend setting up a dedicated account or email folder for your travel emails to keep things organized.) This way, you will be updated on the latest deals and promotions that the hotel or brand have going on. Finally, make sure that you book your hotel room in advance making sure to take note of cancellation restrictions. This will ensure that you get the best possible price for your stay.

Choose wisely: Jake hates hiking, but ruled out the Pacific Crest Trail a little too late.

Take a Hiking Trip. (Yes this is us saying this.)

Jake isn’t a hiker, but If you’re the active  and feel at your best when you are outside and surrounded by nature, the chances are that you enjoy hiking. Hiking is a fantastic way to spend your leisure time and offers many benefits. Hiking enables you to be physically active and explore new places while being immersed in the incredible beauty of nature. With so many benefits to be gained from hiking, it is easy to understand why it makes for an appealing vacation activity. If you like the idea of taking a hike during your vacation, you could decide to go a step further and make your entire vacation a hiking trip. Challenging yourself to take on an adventurous hike for the duration of your trip is something that takes grit and determination. You will need to follow the example of Brian McPeek and dedicate time to preparing for your hike before you embark on your big adventure. While a trip of this scale takes time to plan, the feeling of accomplishment afterward will make it all worthwhile.

We do have one hiking friend. Have a listen to this vintage Modhop podcast as Alyssa (Heimrich) Fritsch talks a little about a hiking adventure on a trip to Califiornia…where she now lives.

Learn a New Skill

There is often very little chance to learn new skills and try new things as an adult. Often the responsibilities of everyday life stand between you and your desire to learn new skills and challenge yourself to try new things. But, taking a vacation provides you with the ideal chance to try all the things you have been dreaming about without the distractions of everyday life getting in the way. Whether you have always wanted to take a cooking class to improve your culinary skills or have spent many years wanting to learn how to paint watercolor pictures, making this the focus of your holiday is a great way to finally make these dreams come true.

Master a Sport

Like learning a new skill, having the time to dedicate to mastering a sport is not easy when you have responsibilities. So, booking a vacation that enables you to benefit from expert tuition and the opportunity to immerse yourself in the sport you love makes for the perfect break from ordinary life. Active and adventurous vacations are available for sports fans across a range of disciplines, so whether you are looking for a surf school holiday or a white water rafting trip like this one in Lake George, NY (one of our favorite spots), there are plenty of options available.  Jake’s take: “The Holiday Inn Lake George Resort is usually a great off-peak deal using IHG points for family travel” (unpaid shout).

A cool example of a sport-centered vacation is this tennis clinic in Miami with luxe accommodations and amenities. You can also contact your hotel’s concierge for ideas. Hockey anyone?
