Autumn Menus on JAL are Full of Great new Upgrades.

Jake Redman August 19, 2016

Menu upgrades between LHR and HND. I haven’t been shy about my love for Japan Airlines food in first class. The multi-course Japanese menu is full of fantastic and flavorful bites that we’ve given our highest rating to. Since our last JAL trek there have been menu tweaks in first class and other premium cabins on select routes. Here we focus on new Japanese options from London Heathrow to Tokyo Narita and new kid menus in first from Japan. First, first… Looks like JAL has a new celebrity cook in the kitchen. Daisuke Hayashi, Executive Chef at London’s “Tokimeite” has been working with Japan Airlines food […]

Is this JAL First Class Amenity Kit as Awesome as the Seat?

Jake Redman May 16, 2016

The JAL First Class amenity kit comes in 2 versions depending on whether you’re on a long-haul flight to or from Japan. Today Jake unBOXes the inbound version. (*Ignore the graphic that says “Courtesy KLM” at 2:48.) Whaaat?! 4 layers deep (inside plastic wrapping, inside a plastic container, inside a bag within a bag) are a pair of 3M earplugs. These are as good as we’ve used from a kit on a plane but you might do better with a higher decibel-rated earplug from the likes of Macks, Heros, Moldex and others typically available at your local drug store.   Hello […]

Pregame | Five Days of OneWorld First – #mileburn2014

Jake Redman November 5, 2014

It’s a first class round-the-world adventure in 5 days (or 3 business days if you tune out over the weekend).  #mileburn2014 is our first ever international trek in the VERY front of a handful of OneWorld Alliance carriers from Nov. 7-11, 2014 . Here’s a preview of what we have to look forward to. Our first flight is from New York (JFK) to London Heathrow (LHR) in first aboard a British Airways 777-300. If BA’s promotional  video is any indication, we expect to find ourselves almost entirely alone at the airport and consistently bathed in soft lighting through the experience. Flight 2 is  a […]

Jake Redman February 11, 2019

With so much to talk about we had to sort of force our way into the podcast room. Again, we’re sans guest but I found some great places to talk about after my yearly trek to the New York Times Travel show. Plus, some really good news about an airport hotel that’ll be a destination itself that’s taking it’s first reservation soon and a couple of big US airlines are getting new, tiny planes. New York Times Travel Show Mentioned on the podcast: Want to take amazing pictures of Northern Portugal? Got 4000 bucks? Want to tour Southern Japan on […]

Delta Wants you in Their Sleepy Pants.

Jake Redman March 18, 2016

Delta’s Great Wall of Jammies Since late 2015, Delta’s been handing out “loungewear” (translation: airplane pajamas) to Delta One customers on select routes. The airline is now upping the number of flights that are pre-loaded with sleepwear with the addition of flights between certain US hubs and China. Passengers flying in the premium cabin on these routes will get these as part of a larger premium cabin exclusive offering that includes a Tumi branded kit and Westin “Heavenly Bedding” pillow and duvet for cozy up-front flying. Where to get em: Delta pajamas are now offered in Delta One when flying between these […]
